Dear participants, hi boys and girls In 2008 and 2009 I was one ot the hosting families in the Netherlands. Guys of Canada, Georgia, Sweden and Turkye stayed at my house. It was a lot of fun and we had a more than pleasant time. Last year our Youth Exchange Commissioner George Everdij asked me if I was willing to be the chairman of the senior staff of the Exchange Programm 2010. Because of my positive experiences my answer was clear: YES! I’m glad to be one of your hosts of the Lions Youthcamp Waterworld. It is situated in a small village called Harlingen in the most northern parts of the Netherlands. The province you will be staying in is called Friesland or in the local frisian language Fryslân. Our province is famous for its many lakes and canals. For this reason we called our youthcamp Waterworld. During the ten days in our flat and green province you will experience the way of travelling over and competing with the element of water, which the Dutch worldwide are famous for. You will stay in a maritime academy, where normally many students life, eat, drink and study who want to work on the national and international waters. So this place is completely fit for you to stay. Together with our local Lions and Leoclubs we organized a thrilling programm for you. Of course you will experience our province with all its specific curiousities, like the local sport fierljeppen, the local drink Beerenburg, the Dutch tradition of eating raw hearing, sailing in special ships, walking on the famous Dutch wooden shoes, visiting one of our famous Wadden islands. And our juniorstaff organized of course for you a day trip to Amsterdam, the Dutch city with the biggest attraction for all foreigners. You will see the famous canals in Amsterdam, see special museums, but also experience the freedom this city has to offer. I am sure you will have a wonderfull stay in our country. I hope you will meet a lot of new international friends and experience the excitement of meeting new cultures and habits. Bert Finke your chairman of the senior staff
